While silicone bongs are very convenient, especially when traveling, they require constant maintenance to make sure you don’t have a smelly bong.

Unlike glass bongs, a silicone water pipe is a porous material and can get a smell that is hard to get out.

In addition, silicone will degrade if you use harsh chemicals to clean it.

So if you want to know how to clean a silicone bong, keep reading.

I give you 3 easy methods for doing so.

Why Should You Clean Your Silicone Bong Every Day?

You should clean a silicone bong every day because if not it will get an unpleasant smell to it that will make your smoke taste bad.

It also can become a health hazard.

Because silicone bongs are porous, the resin gets trapped in its microscopic holes and bacteria will grow on this throughout your bong.

By cleaning your silicone bong after each session, you are ensuring the resin doesn’t get trapped and settle in the silicone itself.

Are Silicone Bongs Easy To Clean?

Silicone bongs are incredibly easy to clean if you clean them after every session.

Even just leaving water in your bong for just several hours after a session might be enough to embed a nasty smell in it.

Because regular cleaning of your silicone bong is so important I want to give you 3 easy options for cleaning it, no matter your situation.

3 Ways To Properly Clean Silicone Bongs and Pipes

If you have a dirty bong and want to clean it, here are 3 methods for

Method One: Cleaning A Silicone Bong Using Dish Soap and Water

In this method, I will show you how to clean a silicone bong using dish soap and hot water.

Step 1: Remove the bowl, downstem, and accessories from the silicone bong

Step 2: Drip a medium amount of dish soap down the downstem opening and main chamber of the silicone bong

Step 3: Fill in enough hot water so you can splash it around. Use a bottle brush if you have one available to get all the gunk out of it.

Step 4: Cover all holes and shake the water and soap vigorously for about 45-60 seconds.

Step 5: Empty the water and fill the silicone bong with hot water again

Step 6: Repeat steps 4 and 5 til the silicone pipe no longer has soapy water coming out

Step 7: Use the smell test to see whether your bong is fully clean or not. If all the resin is gone, it won’t smell bad.

Step 8: When finished cleaning, air dry your silicone bong or pipe

Method Two: Cleaning A Silicone Bong Using Specialty Cleaners

In this method, I will use a specialty cleaner to show you how to clean a silicone bong and silicone pipes.

This cleaning process is great when using products like Eyce Silicone Cleaner and Kryptonite Bong Cleaner.

Note: This is my preferred silicone bong cleaning method.

Step 1: Pour a conservative amount of Eyce Silicone Cleaner into the openings of your silicone bong or pipe.

Note: For small silicone pipes, I recommend putting specialty cleaner and the pipe in a zip lock bag when cleaning it.

Step 2: Use a bottle brush, paper towel, or cotton swab to scrub and reach the inner walls of your silicone bong or pipe.

Step 3: Rinse your silicone pipe or bong with warm water and air dry the bong once completely clean.

Method Three: Cleaning Silicone Bongs Using The Freezer

In this method, I will show you how to clean a silicone bong using just your freezer and some rubbing alcohol.

This is by far the easiest way to clean your silicone bong or pipe.

Step 1: Use warm water to clean the loose resin from your silicone bong or pipe

Step 2: Use a paper towel to get any water off your silicone bong and leave it to air dry if necessary

Step 3: With your silicone bong or pipe fully dry, place it in your freezer for a few hours or until totally frozen

Step 4: Once frozen, pull out of the freezer and simply bend and twist your silicone bong so all of the frozen residue comes off the silicone bong

Step 5: Use a paper towel that is slightly damp with isopropyl alcohol to wipe down the outside and reachable inside areas of your silicone bong

Can You Clean A Silicone Pipe or Bong With Alcohol?

No, you should not clean a silicone bong or pipe with alcohol because rubbing alcohol is a solvent and that can degrade the silicone over time.

Be especially cautious when cleaning a food-grade silicone bong because they are especially porous.

It is best you only use isopropyl alcohol when wiping down the outside surface of the silicone bong.

Can you soak a silicone bong in alcohol?

I highly recommend against soaking a silicone bong in alcohol or hydrogen peroxide because silicone is porous and the solvents in isopropyl alcohol will degrade the surface over time.

Can You Clean A Silicone Pipe or Bong In The Dishwasher?

Yes, you can clean a silicone pipe or bong in the dishwasher, and medical-grade silicone is technically dishwasher safe.

However, I recommend removing all your regular dishes from the dish rack and washing your silicone bongs in a cycle alone.

Personally, I do not use the dishwasher method.

I use a bong cleaning solution like the Eyce Silicone Cleaner.

Can I boil my silicone bong to clean it?

Yes, you can boil a silicone bong to clean it.

I recommend rising out the dirty bong water with warm water and even using paper towels to clean any visible resin.

When you boil silicone I recommend you place your silicone pipe or bong in just as the water boils then turn your stove off.

Make sure you do not get splashed by any boiling water. Drop your silicone bong or pipe in slowly.

Can you clean silicone with alcohol?

You can wipe down silicone with alcohol but I do not recommend soaking or cleaning silicone bongs with isopropyl alcohol.

Isopropyl alcohol and hydrogen peroxide have solvents in them that will degrade your silicone bong’s surface.

How do you clean resin out of a silicone pipe?

You can clean the resin out of a silicone pipe by either using dish soap and hot water, a specialty cleaner, boiling water, or even your freezer.

To make it easy, I recommend cleaning your silicone bong after every smoke session.
